Software meets craft.
Purpose-built design tools and services from the inside of the industry — not from the outside looking in.
Every tool and service at Roitto Design Works draws from 13+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing industries. We know the problems because we've worked alongside production — and that perspective shapes everything we design.
Combining deep industrial design expertise with software development and an ongoing curiosity for AI-enhanced design workflows. The result: tools that solve real problems encountered at the CAD workstation, on the workshop floor, and in production meetings.

DesignBuilt on Experience
Roitto Design Works is founded by Jukka Roitto, an industrial designer who builds software because he's spent 13+ years needing it.
Experience
Industrial designer at VA-Varuste, working with boat manufacturers across Europe. 13+ years spanning seating, canvas, structural design, and CAD automation — from hands-on craft to digital tools.
- Marine soft goods & seating systems
- Canvas structures & enclosures
- CAD automation & plugin development
- Production documentation & manufacturing
“When you understand the craft deeply enough, you can build tools that feel like natural extensions of the work.”
“Software should fit the workflow, not the other way around.”
Background
Industrial Designer with over 13 years as an in-house designer at VA-Varuste since September 2012 — a manufacturer specializing in marine soft goods. Working directly at the factory means daily contact with production: from material selection to final assembly, with daily collaboration across two sites in Finland and Poland.
Over the years I've worked with many of Europe's leading boat brands, such as Saxdor Yachts, Nimbus Boats, Finnmaster, Sargo, Bella, and Grandezza — designing everything from complete interior packages to complex deck upholstery systems. For Saxdor, I've served as VA-Varuste's Lead Designer across numerous projects, owning the design account from concept through production coordination.
When I started, projects were simpler — traditional boat cushion sets. Today, the work has evolved dramatically: complex upholstery systems, sofas and sunbeds with integrated mechanisms, and complete interior packages. The company has grown alongside, and the scope of each project reflects that growth.
Problem-Solving & Complexity
My strength is problem-solving. I can quickly identify potential issues in product designs — essential when development cycles are fast and solutions need to be locked in at the CAD stage. I've been with Saxdor Yachts since the very beginning of the brand, serving as VA-Varuste's Lead Designer for their soft goods across the award-winning fleet — upholstery systems, sofa mechanisms, pilot seats, canopies, and enclosures. Alongside Saxdor, I've carried responsibility for several other key client design accounts simultaneously. In addition to my role at VA-Varuste, I've also taken on freelance commissions directly for boat manufacturers, including Saxdor Yachts.
Versatility
The variety keeps me motivated. Projects range from simple cushions to complex canopy systems with custom frames and mechanism-driven furniture. Beyond upholstery, I create technical drawings for subcontracted parts — CNC-cut foam, laser-cut metal and wood, plastic components, and welded tube and sheet structures. I've also designed PUR foam molds and molded plastic parts. Sometimes even marketing materials, websites, and vehicle wraps.
Design + Code
I combine traditional design skills with programming to create smarter workflows. Using Python, C#, and Grasshopper/Rhino, I build custom tools that automate repetitive design tasks while maintaining quality and flexibility. This dual competence is the foundation of Roitto Design Works — tools built by a designer who writes code, not a developer guessing at design needs.
Education & Ongoing Development
Graduated from Kuopio Academy of Design in 2010. Currently pursuing a Master's degree at Savonia UAS, developing automated modeling software for boat canopy production — always looking for smarter ways to work.
